Looking beyond the hype—the claims that “software is solved,” the rise of vibe coding, panic layoffs and rehiring, one-person unicorns, and on-demand software—we should ask ourselves: what really changed? What do we see if we zoom out far enough and blur our vision? Understanding what software has become is central to orienting ourselves.
